The slot of the foot allows the gathering of one piece of fabric while it is being attached to another (ungathered) layer. A ruffle can be made and attached in one operation. The amount of gathering can be adjusted by varying stitch length and needle thread tension. For heavier fabrics, the use of the long stitch or basting stitch will facilitate gathering. The distance between rows of gathering ranges from a minimum of 3/16″ (5mm) to a maximum of 3/8″ (10mm). For applications where exact control of the gathering ratio is required, consider the use of the Bernina® Ruffler (# 86).
When purchasing feet, please select which version of foot which fits your machine. The ‘standard’ version of foot fits older machines from the Bernina 910-1630. The ‘v version’ fits the newer Bernina machine models from the Activa 125 upwards.
