The small needle hole provides excellent fabric control. 

This foot is especially useful with difficult or delicate fabrics such as charmeuse, fine silks, etc.

The toes of this foot are open and provide very good visibility while stitching.  Use the edges of the foot for approximate 1/4" and 1/8" seam allowances.  For very delicate or difficult fabrics, consider the use of a straight stitch plate (Models 130-180, Models 1000-1630) in combination with Foot #13 for maximum fabric control.
